Eva, b. 5 July 1787, of Nicolas Schuckmann and Susanna. Sponsors: Eva wife of Johannes Krombach.
The census in 1774 does find them living in the household:
Nichs. Shokeman and Conrod Michael listed in hshd. of Conrod Hickman. The last year of being on the tax list in Loudoun Co is 1781 so we can assume they then went south to Montgomery County. The earliest record in Montgomery Co., shows a daughter getting married in 1783. In 1800 Nicholas Sr. bought land on the "south side of the Roanoke River in Montgomery County and his son, Nicholas Shootman had a house in Salem, Botetourt County, VA. The family is in Campbell County TN by 1812, when three of the boys, Michael, Thomas and William, fought in the War of 1812. The name has changed now to Shoopman. We can only assume that the family still spoke German most of the time and the records are made in English the way that the record keeper heard them.
From Doris King: A descendant of Nicholas and Susannah, Obes Shoopman, says that Nicholas and Susannah indentured themselves in Loudoun Co., VA to buy some land.
Our Schuckmanns were associated with 2 churches and although they are in different states, according to Map Quest they are only 20 miles apart.
